The Whisky King Wins!

Thursday night at a gala event at Toronto’s Arts and Letters Club, the Crime Writers of Canada association handed out its annual prize — the Arthur Ellis Award. In the category of Canada’s best nonfiction crime book, The Whisky King came out the winner! I couldn’t be more thrilled. (That’s the famous Linwood Barclay who presented me with the prize — a winner himself that same evening.) Thanks to everyone who came out to support me that night — my editor, Jennifer Lambert; my agent, Carolyn Forde; Hillary McMahon from Westwood Creative Artists; and my partner Mary Symonds. It was a fun event, a wonderful honor, and the trophy has to be the best ever created for a writer’s prize. (What may not be apparent from this photo — the trophy has pull strings. It dances!)
